June is Pride Month and Disney is celebrating this year in a few fun and colorful ways! Not only have they released the Rainbow Disney Collection, but they are also taking some time to recognize the contributions and stories of LGBTQ+ communities around the world.

🌈

This is not the first time that Disney has joined in the celebration. In past years, we’ve seen products released for Pride Month including hats, plushies, t-shirts and more. Things year Disney’s taking it to the next level though. The new collection, called the Rainbow Disney Collection or The Walt Disney Company Pride Collection, features a wider range of merchandise than before. This includes everything from pins to pet accessories and even coffee mugs. Even better, The Walt Disney Company is donating funds [presumably from the sale of these items] to organizations from around the world that support LGBTQ+ communities.

During my most recent trip to Walt Disney World I had a chance to see parts of the Rainbow Disney Collection while strolling through the Screen Door General Store at Disney’s Boardwalk and I have to say. . . . I LOVE IT! The section that I happened upon wasn’t that big, but what was on display [at the time] caught my eye right away.

As the name of the collection suggests, items in this collection all feature rainbows. The collection also includes a lot of must have items to include coffee mugs, LoungeFly backpacks, blankets and fans. The collection also includes t-shirts, a wide variety of hat types and even rainbow ears. I was also very excited to see that the Rainbow Disney Collection now also includes Disney pins. These pins feature various Disney characters and icons, all of which are made up of rainbow colors.

Aside from releasing a line of merchandise and making donations to LGBTQ+ organizations, Disney is also sharing some inspiring stories. They kicked off Pride 2021 by introducing Brian Ng, the Product Design Manager for Marvel. Brian proposed the idea for a Disney Pride collection several years ago and was part of the team who brought it to life. You can read more of Brian’s story HERE.

Of course, Disney’s efforts to be more inclusive [to those in the LGBTQ+ community and beyond] aren’t limited to the month of June. In the past weeks and months, Disney has been adjusting policies in the name of inclusivity. This includes relaxing some policies that have made it difficult for Cast Members to express themselves and their identities in the past. We’ve also noticed that Disney has been more inclusive in marketing materials such as maps and on social media accounts. This has included featuring LGBTQ+ couples and families in various forms of media.

Overall, we here at 2 Foolish Mortals are very happy to see that Disney is not only participating in Pride Month, but also that they are making an effort to become a more inclusive place. From changing the policies so that Cast Members can express themselves a bit more to showing that families can sometimes look different from our own, we love what Disney is doing and hope to see more of it in the future.

Happy Pride Month! 🌈
