The Walt Disney Company has returned a time-honored ceremony to Walt Disney World, as well as other Disneyland, this month. The daily flag retreat is a tradition at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland that recognizes active-duty military and veterans of the United States Armed Forces. For decades, every day, Disney parks hold the ceremony. Of course, it too was temporarily suspended due to the pandemic. However, with many things returning to normal, Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park held the flag retreat once again on July 1, 2021.

In keeping with the tradition, a guest visiting the park was selected to participate in the flag retreat. This U.S. Air Force veteran joined members of the Magic Kingdom’s security team to lower the flag and carry it down Main Street USA. The ceremony also included reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, singing “God Bless America” and the “Star Spangled Banner”.

We’re glad to see the return of this time-honored tradition to Walt Disney World and Disneyland. The flag retreat happens daily at Disney’s Magic Kingdom.
