Historic Moment For Rise Of The Resistance

It’s no secret that Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is a popular attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Known not only for being an exciting attraction, but also having a somewhat infamous boarding group system [aka virtual line], it’s one of those attractions you may or may not have the opportunity to experience while at Walt Disney World. However, guests visiting earlier this week had an opportunity to do something that we’ve never seen before in the history of the attraction. . . . . . wait in the standby line.

Since the attraction first opened in late 2019, Walt Disney World made the decision to forego the standby line for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance in place of a virtual queue system. This virtual queue system, which is also known as the boarding group system, allows guests to get in a virtual line rather than the standard standby queue. This gives them the opportunity to enjoy the park while waiting for their turn to ride the attraction rather than stand in line for hours on end. While there has been criticism of this virtual queue system, Disney has continued to use this as its main way to funnel guests into Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. . . . . and it’s worked fairly well. However, we saw a change in the way that guests were allowed to experience Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance this past weekend.

While in most cases boarding groups for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance are usually full first thing in the morning, this past weekend guests have been reporting something we’ve not seen before. Boarding groups for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance were still available past 4PM and all the way until 7PM. As this is when the virtual queue usually wraps up for the evening, Disney made the decision to allow guest to enter the standby queue for the first time since the attraction opened. For guests entering the standby queue the wait time was minimal.

Though we don’t expect this to be something we see very often in the future, it’s an interesting moment in the history of this particular attraction and something we’re happy to see. After all, we’ll more likely than not see lots of additional virtual queues in the future at Walt Disney World.
