Disney Store Finds | January 2021

It’s not very often that I find myself in a shopping mall, even less so nowadays, but sometimes you just can’t avoid it. Like this past week when I needed to conduct some business in the granddaddy of all shopping malls. . . . . Mall of America.

Now, I realize that this will have some people wagging their finger at me, but I’m not a huge fan of the Mall of America. Though there are some great things to be said about it, the Mall of America isn’t the place you want to end up if you’re looking for a casual shopping experience. It’s massive. It’s [usually] crowded. It’s an all day event. That said, I knew that during my trip I’d end up passing the Disney Store and if I was going to be making the 40 minute drive to MOA, I might as well stop in.

As always. . . . I am so glad I did!

With the new year in full swing, the shelves at the Disney Store are stacked with fun new releases. Whether you’re a fan of Mickey and friends or The Mandalorian, there’s something new to check out no matter who you’re shopping for. Today, I’m going to share some of what caught my eye with you and maybe give you some ideas of what to keep an eye out for in the future.

Disney Cats & Dogs Collection

If memory serves me right, it was late 2020 when we started to see items from the Disney Dogs & Cats collection. There were a few items here and there, but the collection has since expanded to include a little bit of everything. Though the selection at the Disney Store in Mall of America was limited, there was still a good selection to choose from.

Here are some of my favorites:

This Disney Dog Pin Set is PAWsome! [Sorry. . . I couldn’t help myself!]

Here are 2 Foolish Mortals we like to collect Disney pins. Well, I suppose it’s more accurate to say that I like to collect pins and Russ likes to trade them. This has me keeping an eye out for pins that I might want to add to my collection or pins that would make good candidates for Russ to trade off. There are lots of good ways to go about doing this, buying sets like this can be one of them.

With basic Disney pins coming in at around $8.00 each, buying a set like this can be a way to start building your collection for a bit less than you’d spend buying individual pins. This particular set is priced at $29.99, which is about $5.99 per pin. That’s a savings of roughly $2.00 per pin or $10.00 total. Of course, you can maximize your savings on this full priced Disney merchandise by taking advantage of discounted Disney gift cards or the discounts [and rewards points] that you get from using a Disney Visa.

Like most items in the Disney Cats & Dogs Collection, there is also a Disney Cats Pin Set available.

The next thing that caught my eye out of the Disney Cats & Dogs Collection were the fashion items. I’m a huge fan of buying practical items that can be used both at the parks and when you get home. [Don’t get me wrong, I love stuffed animals as much as the next 5 year old, but carrying around an 18 inch Figmet stuffie can be cumbersome during trips to the grocery store.] Things like wallets, bags, clothes and accessories all fall into that category. Here we’ve got the “You Say Cat Lady Like It’s a Bad Thing” T-Shirt for Women - The Aristocats [$36.99]. The shirt itself isn’t something I’d be reaching for, not being that into cats, but I do appreciate the cut and the athletic stripes around the sleeves. The Disney Cats Denim Jacket For Women [$69.99], on the other hand, is super cute! This denim jacket features an all over print of Disney cats that includes Figaro, Lucifer, Dinah, Sgt, Tibbs, Duchess, Marie, Toulouse, Berlioz, Thomas O’Malley, Oliver, Felicia, Mr. Mittens, Yzma and Mochi. That’s a LOT of Disney cats! I love the color of the denim here and the faded print that gives the jacket a worn in look, but I’ve got to be honest. . . . $70.00 is a bit much. Frankly, I wouldn’t mind paying this much if we were talking about a true denim jacket [the kind that you could drag for a mile behind a truck without having to throw it out], for me this is more of a denim shirt. That said, this is an item I will likely keep an eye out for over on the sale racks. Although you can find the Lady “More Disney. More Dogs.” T-Shirt For Women - Lady and the Tramp [$36.00] on shopDisney, they didn’t have any of this particular shirt on the shelves. Sadly, you won’t find a dog version of the denim jacket in store or online. Little Mermaid Swim SetOne of the things that we’ve talked about in the past is how to make your next trip to Walt Disney World more magical. I gave a few suggestions, but one of the things that I forgot to mention was special clothes and outfits. I realize that dressing up in something fun isn’t for everyone, but for the right family [or person] it can really change the game. Keeping in mind what I mentioned earlier in this conversation about practical items, I couldn’t pass up a closer look at this Little Mermaid Swim set!

Little Mermaid Swim Set

One of the things that we’ve talked about in the past is how to make your next trip to Walt Disney World more magical.

Though they are pictured together, this set consists of the Ariel Swimsuit for Girls [$26.99] and The Little Mermaid Cover-Up for Girls [$26.99]. Both parts of this set feature this very cute rendition of Ariel, which is what caught my eye in the first place, along with lots of sparkles.

There are more pieces to the set also, though they were not available in store when we checked. This includes Ariel Slides for Girls [$14.99], Ariel Sunglasses For Kids [$6.99] and the very adorable Ariel Figural Swim Bag Backpack [$16.99]. . . . which I probably would have purchased had it been in store ‘cause it’s so darn cute!

nuiMOs

There is absolutely no way I can talk about my most recent visit to the Disney Store without talking about nuiMOs! These incredibly adorable, posable, dressable microplushies were staring at me even before I walked through the door. . . . . and I had to have one!

That’s another story though!

Coming in at $17.99 each and with outfits that are an average of $12.99 a piece, these are a fun and relatively affordable new collectable. Personally, I think you have to see them in person to fully appreciate how adorable they are. They’re also really fun to play with!

Flair

I mentioned above that I collect pins and that Russ trades them, which is what had this new [although not really new ‘cause it’s been around for a bit] collection catching my eye. It seems that Disney has created bags that are specifically designed for holding, and showing off, pins and other accessories. The collection is called Flair. Currently it consists of two bags. The first is the Mickey Mouse Icon Flair Messenger Backpack [$49.99] and the MIckey Mouse Icon Flair Crossbody Bag [$39.99].

Neither bag stands out to me as anything too special. The colors are neutral and the style of bag is simple. That said, I can’t find myself having too strong an opinion on either. With the prices falling in line with what you’d expect to pay for a similar item elsewhere, it seems like a good choice if this is something that appeals to you.

At the end of the day, I think there are some really cute new releases over at the Disney Store and shopDisney. I also saw some really cute items over on the clearance rack for very reasonable prices, but that’s a discussion for another day.

Have you made any trips to the Disney Store recently? What were some of your favorite finds? Also, let me know if anything we talked about here today is being added to your wishlist!
