“New-ish” Nighttime Spectacular Coming To Magic Kingdom

October 1st marks the 50th anniversary of the Walt Disney World Resort and that means it’s time for a celebration! To mark the occasion, Walt Disney World is hosting what’s being called The World’s Most Magical Celebration starting October 1st and running for 18 months. There will surely be lots of fun and exciting offerings for guests to enjoy, including nighttime spectaculars like the one we learned about today.

Disney Enchantment is a new nighttime spectacular planned to debut October 1st at Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park. The nighttime show will “take you on a journey filled with adventure, wonder and empowerment” while also “inspiring everyone to believe in magic”. The show, which will feature fireworks and projections on the castle, will also feature new projections that extend beyond the castle and onto Main Street USA.

Though we still don’t have anything too specific about the nighttime spectacular, Disney did release some concept art that gives us a glimpse of what’s to come. In the artist rendering of the show, Cinderella Castle can be seen at the end of Main Street USA covered in what seems to be pixie dust as fireworks go off in the background. Guests loom on as the golden pixie dust spreads, covering the buildings that line Main Street USA.

If this concept of pixie dust sparkling and shining as it’s sprinkled on Main Street USA by Tinkerbell and her fairy friends seems familiar, that’s because it’s not the first time it’s happened. Originally, this was a concept used for a nighttime street-tacular called Light Magic. This nighttime parade/show debuted at Disneyland in 1997 as a replacement for the Main Street Electrical Parade. During the very early days of the show, guests could witness Tinkerbell flying down Main Street USA spreading pixie dust with the use of projections, pyrotechnics and fiber optics.

Of course, it’s definitely not 1997 anymore and Disney has since done quite well with their projection mapping technology, leading us to believe that Disney Enchantment will be impressive to say the least. I suppose we’ll just have to wait until October 1st to see for sure!

The show will debut on October 1st 2021 at Disney’s Magic Kingdom Theme Park.
